Band Tour Merch App

Project Background:

A small independent music label came to me with a problem. The band they were representing couldn't afford to pre-pay for merchandise before the tour. They needed a way for fans to buy tour exclusive merchandise through an app that verified the concert ticket. The idea was also floated that this could also be a way for fans to buy merch after the show if they couldn’t afford to buy merch the day of. This also allows fans to buy merch without waiting in lines and potentially missing part of the show.

Project Objectives:

The goals of the Tour Merchandise App project were to:

  • Create an app that is easy to use and navigate.

  • Offer a variety of tour exclusive merchandise.

  • Allow fans to purchase merchandise without waiting in lines.

  • Verify concert tickets to prevent fraud.

Project Activities:

The project team worked with the band and label to design the app. They also worked with a merchandise supplier to source a variety of tour exclusive merchandise. The project team also developed a system for verifying concert tickets.

Project Results:

The Tour Merchandise App was a success. It was downloaded over 10,000 times and fans were able to purchase over $10,000 worth of merchandise. The app also helped to increase ticket sales for the tour.

Project Lessons Learned:

The Tour Merchandise App project taught the project team a number of valuable lessons.

These lessons included:

  • There is a great demand for tour exclusive merchandise.

  • Fans are willing to pay for convenience.

  • An app is a great way to sell merchandise.
